NGOs with their candidates for CEC

On March 12th, 2014, a hearing was held, regarding the candidates for CEC members, nominated by civil organizations and movements. The hearing of the 16 candidates lasted for more than three hours but it didn’t provoke serious interest among MPs.

According the new electoral rules, MPs must decide until March 13th whether to include any of these candidates in their proposals. Among them, there are people with extensive expertise in electoral legislation and electoral processes, with experience in international observation, lecturers on electoral theories, judges and prosecutors, sociologists. Ivilina Alexieva, Executive Director of the Institute of Modern Politics and a lawyer, was nominated for President of CEC.

At the hearing, ISI supported the candidate of the "Civil Initiative for Free and Democratic Elections" Association /GISDI/ - the lawyer Tanya Tsaneva, for CEC member. Tsaneva has extensive experience in election observation, she has lectured on "Elections" at the Academy of Social Policy at ISI in 2011, and was an active partner of ISI team during the elections’ monitoring in 2011 and 2013.
