Conflict of interests and initiative for referendum being discussed at joint session

On March 6th, 2014, the Commission for Cooperation with Civil Society Organizations and Movements within the 42th National Assembly held a joint session with the Public Council, representatives of the presidential institution and experts from the Ministry of Justice.

They discussed a Bill for amendments of the Law on Prevention and Disclosure of Conflict of Interests № 402-01-10, submitted to the Council of Ministers.

At the meeting, the initiative of the President to call a referendum, was also discussed. Rumiana Kolarova, representative of the presidential institution welcomed the initiative, saying that it has received great public support.

As for the obligatory voting, the Public Council expressed concern that it was unconstitutional: "The Constitution has defined the right to vote, not the obligation”.
