The goals of sustainable development - a global agenda for citizens in a globalized world
The goals of sustainable development - a global agenda for citizens in a globalized world

The global challenges for development push EU, its partners and Member States to expand their perspective and to identify the moving forces of sustainable development. They stimulate us to develop new and creative means of implementation that will enable us to successfully achieve 17 sustainable development goals, agreed by the global community in 2015. In this context, EU is launching a new European consensus on development: our world, our dignity, our future. This is European translation of the principles and objectives, agreed in the Agenda 2030. It is also a political document and a strong political statement that reaffirms in a clear and strong language the European Union's commitment to democracy, human rights and good governance.

The sustainable development Agenda 2030 is a universal guideline applicable to both developing countries and EU Member States. European citizens must participate and be sensitive to global challenges such as poverty eradication, food security, climate change, democratic societies, sustainable consumption and production models for gender equality.

In this connection, the ENP, in partnership with the Institute for Social Integration and the Liberal Politological Institute, is organizing a public conference on "Sustainable Development Goals - A Global Citizens Program in a Globalized World", which will examine the EU's efforts to adapt its policy towards the dynamic global context where development cooperation faces significant difficulties and conflicting interests and often has no coherence or public support.

The conference will be held on April 18th (Wednesday) in Sofia, Central Park Hotel from 10a.m. The working language of the conference will be English. A translation into Bulgarian is also provided.
