PC of CEC organizes a discussion on electronic voting
The Public Council of the Central Electoral Commission, where ISI is a member, organizes a conference dedicated to informing about electronic voting. The event is in response to the great public interest in digitalizing the vote.
The event was intended to provide more information on good practices in electronic voting around the world, as well as to show the nature of the experimental Internet voting, taking place in Norway. The conference also examined the state of e-government in Bulgaria as well as the analysis of the monitoring of electronic voting so far.
Electronic voting meets conflicting views. The fears of some citizens are that the vote can be manipulated through hacking attacks. Others believe that electronic voting would be a better option than paper ballots, as this avoids the possibility of replacing them in the census. The conference was attended by members of the Central Electoral Commission. They firmly stated that in the next elections in Bulgaria in 2019, it would be possible to vote by machine. Whether our country will be able to implement a remote electronic vote as well is still unclear so far. Currently, a draft is being prepared so as to make the electronic vote possible. The deadline for the work is by the end of November.
